My Biomedical Engineering Dress with Svaha USA

I’m officially a FASHION DESIGNER!!!

Introducing the “Medical Marvels Dress Collection.” Designed by me!! Don’t you loooove it?

When Svaha asked me to design a science-themed dress, I decided that this dress shall answer the question, ‘what do biomedical engineers do?’

Inspired by West African Ankara prints, each layer in the fabric highlights innovations in biomedical engineering:

  1. Tally lines for the trial and error experienced by engineers before innovations occur. Like my Abby Invents picture book series, failure continues to be a common theme in my work

  2. Genomics: alternating DNA and microscope symbols

  3. A network of Central Processing Units (CPU) represents the computers embedded in medical devices like ultrasounds. CPUs are responsible for processing data and displaying images on screens

  4. Medical devices like prosthetics, stethoscopes, ultrasound machines and cochlear implants

  5. Fluorescent cell staining to visualize cell viability (are cells alive or dead?). This particular cell stain is of the retina. Did you know your eye was this beautiful?

A percentage of sales will be donated to The Leaders Readers Network - a nonprofit focused on early childhood literacy.

Soooo, what do you think of the dress?!!
